I have no problem standing fast on the three core imperatives I was brought up on in the conservative archetype of the GOP.
1) I believe in Capitalism, and feel disgust for any system of dependence based ideology.
2) I feel that government should be restrained, and limited in part to maintaining a strong national defense.
3) I subscribe to the conviction that Americas traditional social aphorisms are indispensable.
There is no dichotomy in espousing a restrained government
advocating limited intervention, whilst asserting the obligation we
have to a Socially Conservative (Pro life, capital punishment etc.) agenda.
Just as we make no qualms advocating for strong national security, while maintaining a fiscally conservative belief system.
One is no more or less important than the other, and if you want to be "a conservative" none of that is optional. (Remember the 3 legged stool analogy)
The social comportment of our political doctrine is often the object
of attack from the cafeteria variety of political mind, particularly in
as much as believing it "un-conservative" to enforce the social values
we uphold as conservatives on a federal level.
However, that is an erroneous idea and must be vanquished, as the
movement is about smaller government, not no government, restrained
intervention, not no intervention, particularly at the sacrifice of one
of our three core principles.
We as conservatives must remember;
Those traditional social convictions are equally as essential to us
as an able bodied defense or restrained spending if we are to remain
the halcyon of political thought in America, and retain her eminence.
